Tips to care leather furniture
There are some simple steps you can take to help protect and care for your leather pieces that will keep them looking great for years to come.
First, purchase the protection plan.
Many people say no to protection plans because they feel like they are just an unnecessary add-on; this could not be further from the truth. Furniture protection plans will offer repair, and most often replacement, of your damaged, scratched for stained pieces. The best thing you can do to care for your leather furniture is buy a comprehensive plan to protect it, while there is the possibility that you will never use it, if you do need it you will be very glad that you paid the extra cost.
Regular maintenance and cleaning are also important steps in extending the life of your furniture. Every few weeks you should dust your leather pieces with a soft, and preferably white, cloth. Dusting will keep dirt from creating scratches on the leather surface. You should also wipe the surface at least once a month with a damp cloth. You want to be sure that the cloth is not over-saturated by wringing out all the moisture before wiping, also always check an inconspicuous area first to make sure that no water is being absorbed into the surface. Lastly, you should apply a leather conditioner to your furniture at least every six months to keep it looking great.
Not all the regular maintenance in world will stop spills or scratches from occurring. When these things happen, acting quickly will help protect your leather from being damaged. If a stain occurs, you will want to use a soft cloth to blot the area. You should not attempt to wipe up the spilled liquid, as wiping will spread the liquid and can possibly lead to absorption. Also, never try to use furniture cleaner to soak the stain, fabric cleaners should never be used on leather surfaces. If a scratch, try gently rubbing the scratched area with a soft cloth, this should help minimize the scratch and prevent spreading.
